Sorry about not typing all those message, I am trying to cover what I have said...
Hello from Butterfly, like me...deaf. I have not involved in DeafRead lately, because I was involved in another project. The project was just finished. So, I checked DeafRead, because I have run out of "Deaf news." I found the group doing the project, "We are Deaf: One and Many." I decided to join the bandwagon, smile.
Now let me start with this statement: "Ask not what your Deaf community can do for you: ask what you can do for your Deaf community." That means contribute our time to Deaf community. Sure, I can tell you some of activities I had in my life for Deaf community.
In my college time, I took several activities for the church. I gave my time with singing, and shared my knowledge with my friends. After that, I did not involve in the church. At least I contributed my time to help Deaf people socialize at my college.
I was a chairperson for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing reunion with those mainstreamed alumnus, not Deaf school students. They were able to keep in touch with their friends. The reunion is held every five years after I started the reunion.
I was an advocate for Deaf community. I provided many workshops, projects, and programs to those people who had the certain needs. My best memory from this agency was helping the mainstreamed students keeping in touch with Deaf community by providing Deaf people, and basic Deaf needs information, such as doorbell ringings, and others. I even gave a presentation on this situation.
I was involved in three different pageants. I was a candidate with one pageant myself (my first year of being in the world after high school). Total four altogether. I contributed my time to help those candidates feel good about themselves.
I was a counselor to a few Deaf people...That is all about it.
I was a case manager for Deaf people who has mental health and mental challenges. I helped them connect to the community on their own. They feel good about themselves. That's great that they could connect to the community!
Recently, I did the vlogs and blogs. The vlogs and blogs has influenced and inspired the deaf community.
Finally, I just worked on Facebook. My purpose for Facebook is to improve the socializing Deaf people in many and various ways. What I am looking for is socializing; extended socializing, other than socializing at home or deaf club, you name it. What can we do more for socialization? Internet! I just posted a few vlogs in Facebook, and discussed what we can improve our socialization in Facebook.
There it is! I think it is all for now.
Am I finished with Facebook and other activities? No, from now on, I will continue and continue improving the Deaf community until I am buried six feet under, ha.
To close this message by adding this statement:
"Know that your people will judge you on what you can build, not what you destroy. To those who cling to power through corruption and deceit and the silencing of dissent, know that you are on the wrong side of history; but that we will extend a hand if you are willing to unclench your fist." - Barack Obama
